It's been a while since I got any NEW Yamato 2199 models. This baby Gelvades-Class Astro Battlecarrier was reprinted about a year or so ago and I grabbed her right before she went back into deep space...

RIP MASTER LEIJI MATSUMOTO 🤍✨💞

 REST IN PEACE MASTER Leiji Matsumoto

I have just become aware of this dear mans passing... I have loved Master Matsumoto's work since my childhood and I will always think of him when I go on a glorious cosmic adventure with his wonderful art and films. 

Renowned manga creator, illustrator, and designer Leiji Matsumoto passed away on February 13 at 11:00 a.m. due to acute heart failure. He was 85. His immediate family already held a service with his manga creator wife Miyako Maki as the chief mourner.

Matsumoto was born with the given name Akira in 1938 at Kurume City in Fukuoka Prefecture, and he debuted as a manga artist in 1953 with Michibachi no Bōken (Honeybee's Adventure) while he was still in high school. After graduating high school, he moved to Tokyo and became popular in the 1950s as a shōjo manga creator under a pen name. He then adopted his most famous pen name, Leiji Matsumoto, in 1965.

His notable works include Space Pirate Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999, and Queen Emeraldas — all of which inspired multiple anime or live-action adaptations — and he contributed designs and created the tie-in manga for Space Battleship Yamato. He also supervised animated music videos for French electronic pop group Daft Punk's Discovery album, and the videos were strung together into the INTERSTELLA 5555 film. His designs and works have influenced multiple generations of artists around the world.

Matsumoto's mechanical designs ranged from sleek warships inspired by early 20th century dreadnoughts, to fantastical space trains. His characters similarly ranged from cartoonish or caricatured designs to grounded, realistic figures.

In 2001 Matsumoto was awarded the "Medal with Purple Ribbon" honor, and in 2010 he was awarded with the "Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette." In 2012 he received the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) decoration from the French government.

 STAR BLAZERS has been in our lives for over forty years... it is one of the best human stories.

COLLECTION DIARY: AUGUST 2019

This summer we had the complete STAR BLAZERS: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 remake released along with the first half of the remake of STAR BLAZERS: The Comet Empire-YAMATO 2202!

I am very happy to own these glorious remakes. They are actually better than the beloved originals, and that is a very special thing to be a part of! Part Two of YAMATO 2202 is scheduled to release this Fall!

COLLECTION DIARY: JANUARY 2018

I have been meaning to get caught up on my beloved and somewhat neglected STAR BLAZERS - YAMATO 2199 Collection. I decided this month to get some of the big kits to start the new year off right! Now I have most of the models I want for my Great Imperial Garmillas Fleet!

I love Space Battleship Yamato so much, but the models are expensive and you get less bang for your buck per kit when you are trying to build an entire fleet game like ARMADA. I think we are going to start getting new models from the currant series so I have put some serious effort to getting the 2199 series in my Battle Parlor before a whole new collection is announced!

COLLECTION DIARY: JULY 2017

I have been letting my STAR BLAZERS Collection and game project slide for to long, so I put some money and effort into getting that updated this month! There are a lot of super cool new models coming out with the new 2202 series and I have to own them. Move up on the project rosters little buddies!

COLLECTION DIARY: MARCH 2017

TOY TIME AGAIN! This month I am celebrating Spring and so of course went all out and finally got some more of The Biggies that I have wanted for a while. Two BORG Cubes is glorious... FUN Even!

This ugly Blinggon monster never looked good to me... not as a Klingon Ship. As a Romulan BOP however; it is absolutely badass and wonderful!

When I started my Reaper Bones purchases I planned out the forming of certain Gangs. Of course some of the miniatures I wanted had been out of stock at the time. This month everything lined up to get the rest of my Egyptian Gang, so now I can setup an Under The Pyramids adventure for my crazy Eldritch Extreme Horror Gaming!

I even had the nerve to place a nice order of Yamato 2199 and 2202 goodies... cause!

COLLECTION DIARY: FEBRUARY 2016

This month I got a few more of the rarer models that I have wanted for some time. Last months Jem' Hadar Battle Cruiser is joined this month by The Borg Cube. Go STAR TREK GOooo!!! I am going to keep on buying these BIG Trek goodies until I have my Boss' BIG Approved Collection completed this year! I also made a purchase from Shapeways for the first time in a couple of years. I am happy to report that they have improved their service.

THE ALL JAPAN HOBBY SHOW 2015: STAR WARS & YAMATO 2199 GOODIES!

A lot of wonderful new goodies are coming in 2015 & 2016 gang... check out the coverage here and smile.

The STAR WARS & STAR BLAZERS (YAMATO 2199) stuff starts at 30 min. The Force Awakens and some new Original Trilogy Models are on display as well as the new Yamato 2199 Mecha ships.

IMPERIAL GATLANTIS ASTRO STRIKE CARRIER KISKA STARTS THE COMET EMPIRE COLLECTION IN 2015!

I have been wondering if there would be a Gatlantis (Comet Empire) remake, since the Yamato 2199 (Star Blazers) remake happened. Now that the Starfairing Ark film is a reality, the series is virtually guaranteed.

Knowing how cool Bandai are about producing corresponding models for the best Japanese franchises, I immediately thought that we would be getting a new Comet Empire model range.

Sure enough, the first Gatlantis ship was previewed late in 2014 and is available this year! The Gatlantis Fleet is available in the Mecha Colle series too, but the models are out of relative scale and thus not good as a whole collection for our gaming purposes.

The trailer for The Starfairing Arc gives us a nice look at all of the main Gatlantis Astro Fleet.

I am very happy that Bandai has started to make a full range of models for the Gatlantis... this is just cool!

YAMATO COSMO REVERSE VERSION AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE THIS WEEK!

The new Cosmo Reverse Version of Space Battleship Yamato is coming this month, and she is beautiful!

The awesome factor this kit brings to gaming is off the scale. The badass characters ships are all included with this version of the Yamato! How cool is that? VERY Cool!

I was surprised that Bandai made this new kit, and I am very happy that they did!!! For my Star Brothers that are not in the 2199 know so to speak, these new ships are the equivalents in X-WING of all Large Ships and both sets of Aces Expansions for the 2199 fleets.
The previous model sets gave us all of the cool fighters and fighter-bombers. This new set brings in the rest of the ships from the series, which allows for some absolutely thematic games!

I am very pleased that Bandai is continuing this excellent model series by adding all new special ships in repackaged variant ships kits. It is a lot like the Aces Expansions, and as a modeling gamer it makes me very happy!
